Who We Are
Our 2025-2026 Board Members

President
Avery Todd
Avery is majoring in Natural Resources - Conservation Biology and minoring in Marine Science. She's also the treasurer of the Zoo Aquarium and Garden Society and a volunteer at the Desert Museum's Stingray touch. Avery loves this club for the way it brings marine science to the community of Tucson and because it provides students interested in marine science with opportunities to engage with our passion even in a landlocked state. Their favorite marine animal changes every year or so because there's so many facinating marine organisms out there! For right now there's the large wrasse species like the humphead or sheephead wrasse. They're very unique looking with interesting life-histories and distinct personalities!

Vice President
Julianna Acuña
Julianna is majoring in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology with minors in Marine Science, Biochemistry, and Molecular & Cellular Biology. Currently she is a Specimen Curator intern for the Freshwater Alaska Fish collection on campus and a University ambassador for the non-profit organization, Women in Ocean Science!
Julianna loves this club because it creates opportunity for people to learn about the ocean in a land locked state and the excitement people get from learning something new! Her favorite marine animal is the La Jolla Leopard shark! She loves sharks in general and thinks they are so beautiful and wants to change the negative reputation that media has given them! 🦈

Treasurer
Isabelle Tillman
Isabelle is majoring in Physics and Statistics & Data Science. She's currently a student research assistant at a biomechanics lab on campus, and enjoys hiking with any spare time. She likes learning about anatomy and enjoys getting to teach people about shark anatomy at our outreaches. She especially loves our dissection nights! Isabelle's favorite marine animal is the coelacanth — "I love knowing that a 410 million year old species is still swimming around in our modern day oceans."

Secretary
Alex Zepeda
Alex is majoring in Natural Resources: Emphasis in wildlife management and conservation and minoring in marine sciences. He currently works in the Ocean lab at the Biosphere 2 as one of the Coral research interns along with working as an Earthgrant Intern at the Tucson Bird Alliance! Alex also likes to volunteer with several UofA projects, work on his garden and climb rocks. He joined this club as a way to make friends as a transfer student after meeting a previous officer while volunteering and the rest is history! Now, he's actively pursuing a career in marine sciences, all thanks to MACS! His favorite marine animals are Nudibranchs because of how vibrant and diverse they all are!

Outreach Coordinator
Joseph Bishop
Joey is majoring in Optical Sciences & Engineering, and Ecology & Evolutionary Biology with a minor in Marine Sciences. He's involved in the Ecological Restoration club as president as well as a part of Science is Fun club. Joey joined MACS to meet people with a shared interest in ocean conservation and talks about octopuses as much as he possibly can! His favorite marine animal is undoubtedly the blue-ringed octopus! He loves cephalopods for the mystery behind how they perceive color!

Communication Coordinator
Jeremiah Shankar
Jeremiah is majoring in Molecular & Cellular Biology and minoring in biochemistry. He's involved with Collar Scholars as their social media coordinator as well as with research on arthropod segmentation on campus. Jeremiah joined MACS due to an interest in animals from Wild Kratts and wanting to meet like-minded people at the UofA. His favorite marine animal is probably octopuses because of how unique their anatomy is and their intelligence.
